I had this tale related to me by my roommate: Laphroaig was my first Islay in the collection (which now numbers about 50 bottles) and my roommate had remarked my initial reaction was a strong one. Consequently, when a friend of his arrived one day sorely in need of a drink, he felt compelled to offer her a dram from the 3 or 4 bottles I had. He didn't want to give her any of my "good" stuff, so he poured her a Laphroaig! She was rather stunned, to put it mildly. When I returned, he mentioned the incident and I asked him what he had given her. Upon hearing his reply, I laughed and told him that if she wasn't looking for an adventure in drinking, then she likely wasn't too grateful for the drink. Needless to say I properly educated him on what to give the "neophytes" who weren't ready for the best that Islay has to offer!
