Bessie's Island Diary
Islay Water Tastes of Whisky
... Or so our islanders have always claimed. Certainly, it is heavily peated and dark in hue. We have always guarded our water source jealously. Many years ago, Laphroaig's
founding fathers wisely dammed the Kilbride River to provide a permanent, reliable source. As a chemist I know its purity is a major influence on our finished whisky. Malt and water from the distillery's spring make the mash which is transformed into wort and fermented wash, ready to be distilled. |
